Roads and Nature Parks
The Friends of Aranda Bushland have opposed road developments which damage Canberra Nature Park and other public reserves, and have promoted alternative solutions to these developments (including upgrading other roads and public transport). The Gungahlin Drive Extension (formerly Dedman Parkway) has been opposed at numerous public consultations over 10 years, and will damage Black Mt. Nature Reserve and Bruce and O'Connor Ridges. Monash Drive will later cut through the Ainslie-Majura Reserve, if a limit is not imposed on car use. The problem is compounded by the many other impacts of car use: greenhouse emissions, energy consumption, air pollution, accidents, noise, congestion and inefficiency.
