Control of Woody Weeds has been the first major activity of the Friends. A large infestation (300 by 150m) of
Hawthorn (Cretaegus) was almost totally removed from the south-west corner of the bushland near Bindubi St. Weeding was also carried out throughout the bushland to remove Hawthorn, Acacia baileyana, Cottoneaster, Pyrocantha,
Briar Rose and many other woody weed species. The principal method of weeding has been by cutting plants at ground level and poisoning with Roundup (Glyphosate). A tool kit is provided by the ACT Parks and Conservation Service for weed control. Guidelines are followed for the safe use of herbicides.
